Discharge Printing:
- Most common type of ink used in screen printing due to its versatility and durability.
- Thick, opaque ink sits on top of the fabric.
- Vibrant colors prints, using specific spot colors.
- Great for printing on both light and dark garments.
- Long-lasting and flexible.
Simulated Process Printing:
- A technique that mimics the appearance of full-color images using a limited number of ink colors.
- Simulated process utilizes halftone dots, which are tiny dots of ink that, when viewed at a distance, create the illusion of a continuous tone.
- The overlapping and varying sizes of the halftone dots create the illusion of a wide range of colors.
- Best for reproducing full-color, photo-realistic images.
- Produces high-detail and photographic prints with vibrant colors.
DTF (Direct-to-Film) Printing:
- A digital printing method where designs are printed onto special film using pigment inks, then transferred to fabric using heat and adhesive powder.
- Full-color prints on any fabric type (cotton, polyester, blends).
- Excellent detail and vibrant color.
- Works on light and dark fabrics.
- Print may have a plastic or rubbery feel, especially on larger areas.
- Adhesive layer may crack or peel after many washes.
- Best for personalized items, detailed graphics and photo-realistic images, and polyester or difficult-to-print fabrics.
Water-Based Ink:
- Inks use water as a solvent rather than plastic-based carriers.
- They soak into the fabric rather than sitting on top.
- Soft hand (feels like part of the fabric).
- Best on light-colored garments.
- Very soft, breathable print.
- Great for vintage or fashion looks.
Discharge Printing:
- A chemical process that removes the dye from dark-colored garments and replaces it with a pigment color.
- Works only on 100% cotton and reactive-dyed fabrics. (Some garments won’t discharge predictably.)
- Very soft print feel, like water-based.
- Bright prints on dark garments.
